Asian Art Showcase

Calvin Charles Gallery, Scottsdale’s chic modern home to the Valley’s most diverse collection of Asian art, currently features an extensive special showing of world-renowned Asian artists through the end of September. Gallery Owner Deborah O’Hara, who traveled extensively throughout Asia during the 18 years that she lived in Hong Kong, proudly showcases this exciting exhibit of contemporary works in all mediums, from paper, to sculptures, to large oil paintings.

Calvin Charles Gallery is proud to be the only U.S gallery to feature the art of Vietnam artists Dinh Thi Tham Toong, Do Quang Em and Nguyen Thanh Binh, whose work was recently exhibited at the Embassy of Vietnam in Washington, DC.

Featured artists include:

• Kyoko Ibe, a pioneer Japanese artist known extensively throughout the world for her contemporary washi paper creations. Special works on display at the Calvin Charles Gallery include: “Mandara” which incorporates Sedona’s red earth with washi paper and “Midnight Series” featuring the mysteries of the evening sky.

• Renowned Taiwanese sculptor Ju Ming, famous for his works revolving around Taichi and The Living World. Ming’s work on display at the gallery includes: “Tai Chi Punch.” His work may also be seen locally at the Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain near the entrance to Elements restaurant, where an eight-foot sculpture welcomes guests.

• Vietnamese painter Dang Xuan Hoa who incorporates oils, gouche and woodblock prints to bring alive the architectural details from his homeland.

• Chinese sculpture Hou Rong, whose work fuses both Eastern and Western influences to create Chinese calligraphy in sculptural form.

• Chinese Painter Shen Xiaotong, a leading painter of China’s younger generation whose art has traveled the world for more than a decade.

• Fang Xiang, a Chinese painter who specializes in ink and vibrant paintings of traditional Chinese houses, gardens and courtyards from his home province of Guangdong.
